Dear Friends,
Thank you so much for your prayers for Dad.
He has recovered from his health problems.
He's tired because he preached again for the first
time in a while, yesterday. But I told him I'd tell
all of you he is feeling better. Thanks again for
your prayers. Prayer works because we pray to a God
who loves us.
I wrote the poem, "Silent Page," on January 1, 1998.
It is by far, the best New Year's Resolution
I have ever made.

Let me be a silent page,
Free from babble,
Free from rage,
Relinquishing my futile mental powers,
Leaving all power to the Sage.
Faith is Jesus' poem,
So I must be a blank page for Him,
Not writing in my mental shenanigans
To supplement His verse.
How can my minute mental minutia
Help the Creator of the universe?
I cannot help;
Who can counsel the Wonderful Counselor?
I can't offer peace to the Prince of Peace
So He can give it back to me.
I cannot explain God to God.
How can I, the king of disgrace,
Set the terms of God's unfathomable grace?
He sets the terms.
Who must I be?
I must be a silent page,
Washed pure white by the red blood of Jesus
(The incomprehensible colours of God's grace),
Washed clean of all my attempts to
Write my own life and a faith based on my own understanding.
Paper can't complain to the Author
For what He writes on it.
Neither can I influence the Poem of Faith
Jesus is writing on my white surface which He purified.
He erased all my futile imaginings from the page;
And on the clean sheet, the page of my life,
The Sage of Sages
Writes a poem in progress.
He has His eraser handy
And will remove any other attempts of mine
To alter His poem.
Jesus is the Poet.
I am but one of His poems in progress.
You may be His poem too,
But we each must be His silent page.
He's the Author and Perfecter of our faith;
It's His pen;
And we are His paper.

Prayer update on Dad

Dear Friends,
Dad has left the emergency room and is home again. He has been given medications to treat "a urinary tract infection" and "a low blood potassium level."
His pneumonia seems to have left; hopefully it will stay away for good. He still has a cough, but he's had one for a long time; I think it's a chronic cough.
Thanks for your prayers. Keep 'em comin'.
As a pastor, over the years, during Monarch Butterfly season, Dad has often done a children's story that spans over a few weeks in Sunday morning services. The kids (and adults) get to see the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly over that period. He just did it again recently. This is a photo I took of one of the butterflies in my parents' condo, before Dad set her free. Enjoy.

BELL CANADA: The Worst ISP in Canada!
I am absolutely livid! I have had so many calls to technical support and to billing to fix one problem after another with my Bell Sympatico Internet service. They are absolutely the worst service you could order. Customer Service is very polite as they continually lie to me, bill me for the wrong services, and screw up in ways that make me have to hold back from smashing my laptop screen. Fortunately, my temper is not that bad, but Bell Canada sure comes close to getting it there. I think tomorrow, I'm going out and ordering internet service from Rogers. They certainly couldn't suck any more than Bell Canada!

I am addicted to the music of THE CURE, and I own over 30 of their CD releases. I'm just thinking now of two of the brilliant lines written by Robert Smith, their lead singer.
One of my favourite songs by THE CURE is "A Night Like This," and I think this line in the song is absolutely brilliant:
"Your trust--the most gorgeously stupid thing I ever cut in the world."
I also love THE CURE song "Club America." Probably the most creative writing of Robert Smith's career is in the lines:
"'Club America Salutes You,'
says the girl on the door.
'We accept all major lies;
We love any kind of fraud.
So go on in and enjoy...
Go on in and enjoy.'"
I love this ingenious word play on "We accept all major credit cards."

Dear Earthlings,
Pray for me. I still love Jesus with all my heart, but I've grown rather disillusioned with organized religion and haven't been involved with any church for a while. Part of it is my own selfishness. My nudism is a big part of my life and belief system, and the topic was making people uncomfortable at my church. I was asked to no longer bring up my NudeCreations.com website in conversation, and I eventually decided to cease attending the church because I hate having to cut myself in half to make people happy. 1 John 2:15-17 has always been a passage that convicts me because I'm notoriously guilty of the three things it warns against. "The boasting of what I have and do" is the biggest of the three, in my case. I find it very hard to not give people my website address when meeting them. I'm very narcissistic, which I know is not a virtue.
The Bible passage also warns against "the cravings of sinful man and the lust of his eyes." With the exception of some sexual experimentation with a friend in my early teens, I've been single and celibate my whole life, which at 38 is very hard to deal with. I've lost count as to how many girls have wanted to "just be friends." Fortunately, some of them meant it and still are close friends. I've always tended toward having girls as my best friends. Even at my 7th birthday party, 4 of my 5 guests were girls. I am not a typical guy. Maybe I relate to girls better because I'm not into sports, I love the shopping mall, and I'm a creative artist, poet, and hopeless romantic.
Take care. And stay close to Jesus. We can communicate with him anytime. Even if the computer crashes and the phone dies, he's always with us.

Read about God's NAKED PROPHET in Isaiah 20

and consider the fact that Isaiah obeyed God by streaking for three years. If the prophet refused to be naked in public, that would have been sin. Think about it. The human body is not evil; viewing God's greatest masterpiece with a sense of shame is. Viewing the body with shame was a result of the fall of man, and like Adam we cover ourselves and condemn our bodies which God made and pronounced "very good," using them as scapegoats for the true condition of our hearts. God would rather have us naked and honest than clothed and fake. Clothing is fine as a protection from the weather, but it is useless as a spiritual bandage. I used to want a nudist world, but I'm mostly an indoor nudist, because I burn faster than toast. Now my hope is for a world that is clothing optional. To quote myself, "The human skin is not a sin."

Dear Earthlings,
Have you ever noticed the magic of the mirror? I noticed it one day, focusing with my camera aimed at a mirror. Depth of field exists even in a reflection. Maybe the other side of the mirror really is another 3-dimensional world. Try it. Focus on different parts of the same reflection in a mirror. It is truly amazing that even a reflection, within a perfectly flat plane of glass, actually has depth. Even something that does not really exist can be more complex than we give it credit for.

Dear Earthlings,
I just experienced a Holy Spirit-filled weekend at a PROMISE KEEPERS CANADA

rally in Kitchener, Ontario. It was a wonderful time of renewal. It was around 140 men gathered to learn how to be men of integrity.
Thanks to my friend Robert for inviting me and to our friend Frank for joining us. Thanks for sharing the love of Christ with me. I couldn't ask for two better friends. Thanks also to the other men who ministered to me in a special way, and to all the men who attended. I was really uncomfortable meeting with God on Friday night, but Saturday's session was a wonderful, often tear-filled time in which the Holy Spirit really broke through and gave me peace.
We also had a bonfire called the "PORN ROAST," in which we burned anything that was causing sexual sin in our lives. I cleared out my hard core videos and added them to the flames. I wasn't going to do it, but, like I said, the Holy Spirit broke through, and I'm so glad He did. I'm not naive enough to think the struggle is over, but God is faithful through all my trials and temptations, and I'm so happy to have renewed my walk with God this weekend.

Dear Earthlings,
I sent the letter inside the asterisk *** strings (below), to the Community Mental Health Clinic, here in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. The Clinic has hosted a support group for people like me with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) for many years, but will no longer be hosting it due to restructuring of the clinic's services. I've been a member of the OCD support group for the past few years, and it has been an immense help to me. I will really miss our meetings.

Dear Community Mental Health Clinic,
Over the past few years, the OCD support group has been a tremendous blessing to me, and I was rather upset when informed of the group's demise. Ontario's provincial government may think that there are more efficient ways of spending my money, but I depend on this service and was so happy to be in a nation that offered so much to me as a mental health patient. Now, apparently some bean counters in Toronto think that the OCD support group does not benefit me. Well those bean counters are wrong. They don't know me, and I don't know them. But I do know this OCD support group, and they know me, and I know I need this group to continue with a facilitator, here, at the clinic.
Thanks for so many good things you've done for me over the years. I know that through the OCD Support Group, not just I have been helped, but I have been able to help other OCD patients through the excellent format the experts in efficiency are so intent on destroying. Let's keep working together to make Guelph a great place for mental health patients. Please do not disband the group. Thanks.

Dear Earthlings,
I used to live in Duanesburg, New York, a beautiful countryside neighbourhood, surrounded by hilly terrain which is magnificent in autumn. Duanesburg is not far from Schenectady and Albany. Even if you don't see the name on your map, Duanesburg is easy to find. Downtown Duanesburg "is" the intersection of Routes 7 and 20. You can't miss Duanesburg's "one" set of stop lights.
Anyway, I had a friend in Duanesburg who was a skydiver...yes, a skydiver. Skydiving is big in Duanesburg. In the warmer months, I would often see people in parachutes plummeting toward earth. The skydiving club headquartered itself at Duanesburg's little airport. My skydiver friend told me once about Duanesburg's close encounters with Harrison Ford. She wished she had been there, at his visits, to meet him; but it's still a great story.
Besides being a superstar actor, Harrison Ford is also a pilot, and, as a pilot, he was at Duanesburg's small airport. He ate at a restaurant in Duanesburg called "Jonathan's Pizza"--no relation to me, but still a nice name. Anyway, a year later he arrived back at the Duanesburg Airport and ate, once again, at Jonathan's Pizza. When he went into the restaurant, he noticed something very strange. They had mounted his plate and eating utensils from his last visit onto their wall. His response was to ask if there were anywhere else in town that he could eat.

Whee! I'm nearing the crest of the photographic rollercoaster!
One never stops learning. I'm glad. In our fallen, sinful state, if we knew everything, we would be bored out of our skulls, and absolute knowledge would lead to depravities not even yet conceived of. Of course, absolute knowledge could also lead to unfathomable goodness; however, we are not perfect. So, I'm glad God is the only one with absolute knowledge, because he is the blueprint for goodness, in which no evil is possible. Oh, that we would become perfect imitators of him, "as dearly loved children." I forget the Scripture reference and am too lazy to look it up. There's a perfect example of my imperfection.
